Take Action

There are lots of ways to safely take action against abusive behavior, whether or not you’re personally involved.

Support the Cause

Spread the word to those who may need help, or just take a stand against violence in our world.

  • Visit Red Flags on MySpace, and add us to your Friend list.
  • Join our street team to receive materials and links you can forward or post in your city.

Help Yourself

  • If you feel unsafe, call the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (1-866.331.9474 or TTY 866.331.8453) and ask for help. It’s free, anonymous, and answered 24/7 by trained counselors in 150 languages. In an emergency, always call 9-1-1.
  • Tell a trusted friend or family member about your problems so you can get support. You may feel embarrassed, but remember that half of young Texans have personally experienced dating violence, so you’re not alone. Plus, they may already suspect there’s something going but are afraid to bring it up.
  • Talk to your partner about how his/her behavior makes you feel. Consult our What If…? section for tips on safely discussing sensitive topics.

Help a Friend

  • Reach out to a friend who you know or suspect to be in a violent dating relationship. Consult our What If…? section for tips on what to say and do.
